Before the CONFERENCE
Why do I need to provide my email address?
We only use this email to provide you information about #AfCEM20 in a timely manner (confirmations/receipts, conference updates) We also send daily course evaluations via the email address you provide. Once again, this email is only for #AfCEM20 information
Where can I get my badge and conference schedule?
As we get closer to #AfCEM20 you will be sent an email with the conference schedule or you will be able to get it from the #AfCEM20 website. Your badge will be available at the registration desk when you arrive at the conference.
Where do I make my hotel reservations?

When will I receive the course presentations for the conference?
Paper presentations will not be provided. Presentations will be available on the #AfCEM20 website for download or print about two weeks after the conference.
Where can I get information about side meetings?
AFEM sections hold their meetings during AfCEM. These meetings provide an excellent opportunity to interact with colleagues who share similar interests. If you’re considering becoming an active participant in AFEM activities, this is a great time to see what AFEM sections are all about. The schedule of side meetings can be found on our Side Meetings Page.
Where can I get information about committee meetings?
Most AFEM committees will hold organisational meetings at various times during #AfCEM20. The schedule of committee meetings will be listed in the Side Meetings Page and will be available on the on-site program.
Should I bring my laptop?
Because of the way most course rooms are set up to accommodate many people comfortably, we do not provide outlets and tables in the meeting rooms. However, there will be charging sockets available. If you would like to bring your laptop, remember to bring it fully charged every morning.
Do I need to give my consent for my pictures and videos to be taken?
By registering for the conference, you consent and agree that the African Federation for Emergency Medicine (AFEM), its representatives and employees, has the right to take and use videos and photographs of you (and/or your property) for the African Conference on Emergency Medicine (AfCEM) and to use these in any, and all media worldwide including online, now or hereafter known, and for the project’s purpose whatsoever. You authorise the African Federation for Emergency Medicine (AFEM), its assigns and transferees to copyright, use and publish the same in print and/or electronically. You agree that the African Federation for Emergency Medicine (AFEM) may use such videos and photographs of you with or without your name and for any lawful purpose, including for example such purposes as publicity, illustration, advertising, and web content. You waive any rights, claims or interest you may have to control the use of your identity or likeness in the videos and photographs and agree that any uses described herein may be made without compensation or additional consideration of you. You represent that you are above 18 years of age, have read and understood the foregoing statement, and you are competent to execute this agreement.
What is the cancellation policy for AfCEM 2020?
Full conference registration, less a $150 cancellation fee is refundable only if submitted in writing to firstname.lastname@example.org 30 days prior to the start of the conference. Registrations and cancellations received after 30 days deadline are not refundable. All Lab cancellations received after 30 days of registration will not be refunded. Exceptions will be made for family emergencies and must be submitted in writing to email@example.com. For these instances, the registration fee, less $150 cancellation fee will be refunded. You can not reinstate a registration after you cancel. If you cancel, and are entitled to a refund, expect the refund within 2 weeks. All refunds will be issued back to the original payment type. Cash payments will be refunded by cheque.
How do I get my side meeting/event publicised for #AfCEM20?
Email firstname.lastname@example.org with the side meeting/event details – date, time and location. Use of the hotel side rooms will be billed at $200. AfCEM will alert all registrants about your side meeting/event details as they register for #AfCEM20. Your event details will become part of the schedule and will be include in the #AfCEM20 onsite program.
During the CONFERENCE
How many CPD Points can I earn at #AfCEM20?
This will be my first AfCEM Conference, what do you suggest I see and do?
Make sure you pick out the courses you’d like to attend when you register or before arrive onsite, as popular courses fill up fast. The exhibit hall features hundreds of companies showing off the latest products in emergency care. #AfCEM20 also features some spectacular networking events where you can network, and have some fun.
What is the policy regarding children at #AfCEM20 and is daytime childcare available?
In consideration of your fellow attendees and the faculty, children will not be permitted in the conference at any time. Childcare is available via the hotel, CLICK HERE for details.
What can my guest access at #AfCEM20?
Your guest is welcome to attend any of the social events, including the #AfCEM20 Mnazi Welcome and Gala Dinner. Tickets to these events can be purchased for $50. Only full conference registrants are able to attend the courses.
Am I required to wear my name badge?
Yes. All registrants will be provided with a name badge for use during the meeting. For security reasons, name badges are required at all times in the convention center and social events. Individuals without a visible name badge will not be permitted into the conference rooms, exhibition halls or social events.
Are #AfCEM20 venues accessible by people with disabilities?
Yes. In accordance with Kenya’s People with Disabilities Act, AFEM uses only facilities that are in compliance. If you are disabled and require special assistance while attending #AfCEM20 please call +254 710 633 855
What should I wear to #AfCEM20 events?
Attire for the meeting is smart casual. Every effort will be made to provide a comfortable learning environment, however, meeting room temperatures can fluctuate greatly and may be difficult to control. The temperature is often warm in the meeting rooms, therefore, light clothing is recommended for the conference.
What is AFEM doing to transition to green meetings?
AFEM has made a commitment to the environment by making small but powerful changes in our meetings that will positively impact the environment and reduce carbon footprint of AFEM and each exhibitor and registrant. Here is what to expect this year:
No paper presentations will be distributed onsite. Presentations submitted by our speakers will be available for download on the #AfCEM20 website after the conference for those wanting to print a copy after the meeting.
- Paperless evaluations – course evaluations all done online
- Tote bags made from partially recycled materials
- Registrant badges will be recycled

After the CONFERENCE
Will I be able to provide any feedback on the courses I attended?
Yes. All course evaluations will be done electronically. An email will be sent out each morning of the conference, to the email address you provided upon registration, from email@example.com that will contain a link to the online survey. Please save the email address in the contacts of your email provider so that it doesn’t get routed to your spam folder.
How do I get my CPD/Attendance certificate?
Once the conference has ended, you will receive an email with your CPD/Attendance certificate. For any queries on this, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
When and Where are future AFCEMs?
The next AfCEM conference will be in 2022. Venue will be announced at #AfCEM20.
